BASIC FUNCTION:

Manage the university's Kent State of Well-being program to promote a culture of health and wellness across the university community that will foster health equity, social justice, belonging, engagement, and self-advocacy, resulting in a thriving community. Champion theory and evidence-based and collaborative practices to design, integrate, and coordinate all Kent State of Well-being strategies and programs. Chair the Kent State of Well-being cross-functional team. Supervise Coordinator, Student Health and Well-being. Reports to Associate Dean of Students, Recreation and Wellness Services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 
Provide direct leadership, development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic health promotion initiatives, policies, and procedures for the university community.

Engage students, faculty, and staff in developing, delivering, and assessing Kent State of Well-being programs.

Develop, implement, and analyze periodic health surveys to provide baseline and follow-up health-related data, identify program needs and priorities, evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and track trends in student health status and behavior.

Develop methods utilizing evidence-based practices to inform supervisor so as to address and effectively respond to emerging health issues, threats, and trends impacting the university community.

Provide quarterly impact reports on the effectiveness and benefits of the Kent State of Well-being.

Initiate the administration and operation of theory-based and evidence-based health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services.

Utilize data to show evidence of goal achievement through student and employee outcomes.

Supervise professional and student employees and student interns, peer educators, and volunteers; may provide information and guidance to faculty.

Serve on various department, division, university, and community committees.

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Community Health Education, School Health Education, Public Health, or a related field. Three years of experience implementing and administering a health and wellness program in an educational, governmental, non-profit, or corporate setting. Must be able to travel regionally and nationally. Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including early morning, evenings and weekends.

Current CPR (or within 90 days of hire)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in applying established public health models and health promotion theories to the development, implementation, and administration of health and wellness programs. Experience in health promotion best practices in a collegiate setting. Experience managing a wellness program, resulting in positive changes in health risk reduction and employee benefits cost control.

Grant proposal writing and research experience.

Knowledge Of:

Public health and prevention frameworks and standards, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Healthy People 2020 initiative and American College Health Association Healthy Campus 2020 initiative
Literature concerning population health promotion and disease prevention
Workplace wellness best practices and community health program impact on employee productivity and benefit costs
Priority health issues in a college-aged population *
Health behavior theories as they apply to risk reduction in a college-aged population and a college workforce (i.e., faculty and staff) *
Program assessment
Personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite *

Skill In:

Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication *
Critical thinking, decision-making, and resolving complex issues across multiple departments *
Implementing projects and assessment of program goals and objectives
Delivering a variety of educational methods, including presentations, workshops, trainings, and small group discussion/facilitation *
Cultivating and sustaining critical relationships with stakeholders to further a strategic plan

Ability To:

Communicate effectively with all university community members, including students, faculty, staff, and external constituents
Incorporate principles of diversity and inclusion in daily work
Recommend strategies for programs on a variety of key health issues based upon the results of needs assessments *
Use communications tools, including new media, to promote and support health-enhancing behavior among the university community
Design health promotion initiatives that support student success and employee productivity
Develop a coordinated workflow/timeline to manage multiple projects
Work independently and as part of a team *
Build, cultivate, and sustain relationships with internal and external constituents
Handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks *
Travel regionally and nationally *
Work nontraditional hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends *
Work cooperatively with stakeholders
