BASIC FUNCTION:

Plans and manages the delivery of healthcare through supervision of nurses and nursing assistants. Coordinates and monitors University Health Services Occupational Health Program and Infection Control Program. Reports to Director, University Health Services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Plan and manage the work activities of nurses and nursing assistants; assign and monitor work methods, schedules and priorities; evaluate performance; resolve nursing staff problems, address staff concerns, complaints, and grievances; monitor and maintain personnel records; approve/deny leave requests.

Coordinate and monitor University Health Services Occupational Health Program.

Coordinate and monitor University Health Services Infection Control Program.

Conduct outcome measurement and evaluation of Occupation Health and Infection Control Programs.  Make recommendations to improve programs.

Work with Chief University Physician in the development of policies, procedures and standing orders.

Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.

Provide primary nursing care in the clinical setting.

Identify staff training needs; develop and implement training activities.

Participate in ongoing continuing education activities in occupational health nursing and infection control.

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Four years direct patient care experience to include one year of supervisory or lead experience and completion of one or more American Nursing Association (ANA) approved courses in Occupational Health.

License/Certification:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio; certification in CPR.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN).

Knowledge Of:

OSHA recordkeeping requirements, medical monitoring programs, and other OSHA required programs, such as respiratory protection, PPE, hearing conservation, bloodborne pathogens

Safety, ergonomics, toxicology, and epidemiology

Occupational health nursing practice, including the process for workers compensation *

Medical treatment protocols

Current governmental regulations and community health principles applicable to occupational and environmental health and safety

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication *

Managing people and programs *

Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software *

Ability To:

Read, analyze and interpret a variety of technical and nontechnical materials

Provide leadership and direction *
