BASIC FUNCTION:

To assist the Dean in the overall administration of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, specifically by providing administrative leadership for the professional pilot program and affiliated operations. Reports to the Dean, College of Aeronautics and Engineering

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Develop, implement, and facilitate academic growth initiatives to be located at the airport in consultation with the faculty organization and appropriate CAE committees.

Serve as primary liaison between the college and airport by recommending, developing, and implementing policies and procedures that are mutually beneficial.

Represent the professional pilot program for the college before civic and community groups as well as government agencies.

Serve on college and university committees and represents the college at appropriate university committees and events.

Serve as the supervisor for the college’s flight training personnel as they relate to flight training, safety, maintenance and financial operations.

Evaluate flight training curriculum as necessary to meet demands related to aviation industry standards, aircraft or simulator fleet upgrades, and FAA regulations.

Oversee changes to flight training curriculum as they relate to special course fees of flight training courses.

Coordinate and work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to support academic and accreditation initiatives.

Oversee the completion, recording and filing of flight training records in accordance with institutional policies and in compliance with FAA regulations.

Attend workshops, conferences, seminars, and instructional programs to remain current on flight training regulations and practices.

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience. Must meet applicable experience requirements specified in the Federal Aviation Regulations - Part 141.35 Chief Instructor qualifications for the flight training course assignment(s). Must be in good standing with the Aviation Industry.

License/Certification:

Valid Flight Instructor Certificate-Airplane Single-Engine; Instrument Airplane. Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

Valid Commercial Pilot Certificate–Airplane Single & Multiengine Land; Instrument Airplane or Valid Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. Current CFII & MEI certificate. Recency of piloting experience will be considered.

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications; budgeting; and planning

FAA regulations as they pertain to flight training

Safety standards as they pertain to flight training

Airport operations as they pertain to flight training

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents

Supervision to provide support and guidance for staff and faculty

Implementing projects and proposal initiatives

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direct others

Outline clear goals and conceptual framework for flight and operations

Promote a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication, positive team building, and effective management of stakeholder relationships
